This painting was inspired by the winter paintings of the great Impressionists like Monet, Sisley, and Pissarro. Before I painted this I had to do some research on what winter paintings and snow looked like. So I went to some great art books in Belhaven’s library and took some notes. I learned that the colors were always going to be on the dull and cool side of things. While doing research I could not find an example of a painting that was tall trees in the forest so I remembered that impressionist Richard Oversmith does many tree paintings so I used his work as inspiration. The colors of this painting come from the impressionists and the very broken small brushwork is inspired by Richard Oversmith’s work.
