The painting of the Bowers Museum’s courtyard was done from a photo I took from a trip to southern California this summer. This painting is on a masonite panel I cut and gessoed. I then sketched it out with a pastel pencil so I could just rub something out if I messed up. I started out by overstating the color notes and organizing my lights and shadows. While doing this painting or any painting I am thinking about aerial perspective and how things look when they are in front or behind things.
