This artwork first started when I misread a headline on a podcast - I thought it read 'Crochet with the sea'. It definitely wasn't that but I did think, "What would that look like?" I was imagining flowing threads of colour and lines intersecting with each other in a circular motion. 🤔 That is the direction I went when I laid down the first colours on this painting - circles and movement.
Once the paintings first layer dried and I studied the shapes, what immediately jumped out to me wasn't crochet but a tall cotton tree. I realise cotton doesn't grow on trees but this is what I saw in this artwork. I proceeded to add plant-like details throughout the artwork. If you study the close-ups you will see various leaves and flowing plant shapes.
The colours in this piece are a mixture of several different aquas, deep turquoise and prussian blue. There is quite of few shades of australian yellow-green, turmeric yellow, australian sky blue, lilac sweet pea, dirty purple, metallic rich gold and even some dot of fluro pink. There are lots of other colours thrown into the mix as well.
