As a lover of all things retro, a vintage Vespa was always on the list of items I wanted to paint. Through my research, I came across a vintage 1954 Vespa and fell in love with the simplistic curves, bobble-like headlamp and spring-loaded saddle - all of which have been over-emphasised in my drawing of the scooter.
The Vespa's colour scheme is purely from my imagination. I said to myself - 'What colour scooter would Audrey Hepburn choose?".... hmmm perhaps pink! So that is the direction I took.
The body of the scooter includes several different pinks, magenta, salmon, soft orange and pale green with electric and prussian blue in the shadows. Other parts of the bikes use a myriad of blues and teals. I went to town with metallic colours on the saddle to simulate shiny vinyl. The Vespa is surrounded with bright green foliage and a soft aqua sky... Please take the time to look at the close-up images - this will really show you how much detail and colour is in the abstract.
Whilst the theme of the painting is very retro, it will still sit perfectly in a home with a clean white colour scheme. If you are wanting a large statement piece to light up a room or make an impact in the office, my "Faro Basso" Scooter certainly fits the bill.
