I've been spending time painting more trees in different settings. This happens to be from a photo taken out my window as I was driving down the hillside at the Southern Vermont Arts Center. At first I thought it might just be a simple exercise or study in painting woods without a strong focal point. However it turned out better than expected so I decided to keep it around. Birch trees are a favorite subject for me, and these are a bit more raw and realistic than the more photographic white birch with their pristine trunks. Painting dense woods with depth is a challenge and this is a nice stepping stone to more complex works.
