This is my second painting of this scene, the first being a smaller 6" x 9" painting. I was tempted to try this at 24" x 36" but settled on 12" x 18" instead. Once finished I could the composition was improved by taking two inches off the right edge. It happens!
I love this scene and this bridge with it's surroundings with trees and the rocks visible below the surface of the water. It seems the perfect spot to spend a hot summer afternoon with toes dipped in the water.
Painting it a second time I did not reference the first painting, but drew from the same reference material. In the end they paintings are quite similar, and that is OK by me as then are different in size. The larger size gives the bridge more presence, and allowed me to paint more detail in the landscape and rocks beneath the bridge and in the foundation. It is a fun scene to paint.
