A photographer friend (and artist) I know took a wonderful shot of the sun filtering in through the woods amidst heavy shade. I couldn't get the image out of my mind. Finally I asked if he would mind if I used his photo for inspiration and he readily agree. This painting captures that wonderful feeling of walking through the woods and having the sunlit burst through the heavy cover to light a spot deep in the forest. This painting is looser and more impressionistic than some other recent paintings and it was fun to push my boundaries and see what I could produce. I feel like I caught the impression I was after.
