I create liquid landscapes that whisper of the molten state of all of the earth and the change that each seemingly still thing experiences. The rocks of the Catskills star in these pictures. Each surface shows the fires, oceans, pressure, and survival they have experienced in their millions of years.
I use transparent silk inset in canvas to represent the changes of time that shape these rocks from liquids to solids. I have included gold embroidered fabric from Korea to add a precious quality to the common rock, which I view as precious.
The three paintings here are different vantage points of one still life of rocks from the Catskill Mountains.
