Susan Stair presents art showing trees as a solution for climate change. Her large-scale art installations include clay impressions of tree bark incorporating mosaic to form landscapes. These illustrate recently published scientific findings informed by her study of trees and their impact on the environment. Her six public art installations in NYC Parks were “Setting the Stage for Climate Change” Morningside Park., “Ascending the Mountain”, Marcus Garvey Park, “Roots on Fire”, Art Park, “Tree Reflections” at Conference House Park, and Tree Reflections in the International Flux Art Fair. Her permanent installations include "Birds of the Boreal Forest", 2025 for Audubon, “Returning to the River”,139th St. Harlem, NYC for Flux Art 2018, and “By the Water”, 2009, PS 189, Bronx for NYC Construction Sites for Students.
Stair has exhibited in the United States and Asia where she lived for 10 years. Her exhibitions in Asia include Galleria Duemila, PI, the US Embassy in Manila, The Fringe Gallery in Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Cultural Center, and the Tokyo Design Center, Japan. In the US these include The Emerge International Art Fair in Washington DC, Exhibitions with Flux Art Harlem, Art Lives Here, The Conference House Park in Staten Island, and the Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit, NJ. Originally from Philadelphia she holds an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Delaware.
Statement
I create liquid landscapes that whisper of the molten state of all of the Earth. They address the changes that each seemingly still thing has experienced.
