The Anthropocene is used to describe the current geological epoch that is characterised by significant and widespread human impact on the earth’s environment , climate and ecosystems. Climate change can damage road surfaces through increased rainfall and bitumen aging faster in higher temperatures. The solution for the NT is more climate resistant road infrastructure and the movement of transportation towards rail which also has the benefit of lower carbon emissions.
