“As a plein air artist, I was invited by Strawbale Winery to participate in their annual ’Quilts and Vines’ open house event to benefit Project Linus, an organization that creates handmade blankets for critically ill children. As many as 450 quilts are displayed in the vineyard, some being for sale. This view from the vineyard back up to the main house
describes the setting for this event. Blankets are draped across the vines for viewing by visitors walking through the rows.”

Steven Randall was a combat artist in Vietnam in 1968. His current passion, however, is landscape painting — typically outdoors on location. He paints what he sees, where he is at the time, in the impressionist style. His subjects may be highly recognizable landmarks in South Dakota or less conspicuous, but no less special, places. In that light, he believes his paintings have relevance and significance, reinforcing a sense of place for the people of South Dakota.
