“The Southern Shooting Star (is a native alpine wildflower) and people may think of the Black Hills when they see one. For me it illustrates the beauty and grace that something can have even though it grows in an unpredictable climate with sometimes harsh soils. The image was taken from sketches I made of these perennials growing near my home, then a relief print done on cotton handmade paper painted with pigmented blue and violet pulp. The wet paper sheet was ‘laminated’ onto a grid of fibers which gives the paper extra strength and a fringed edge. The dried sheet of paper was then printed with a block I carved of shooting stars.”
