This piece like 'Yellow Moon' was inspired largely by a trip I did with my Father to Madrid in January 2018. We had tired ourselves out walking around the vast Prado and had plucked up enough energy to see a temporary exhibition by Fortuny. Having seen the big posters advertising the exhibition I was immediately struck by the small intricate scale of his work and of the meticulous control of his craft. I was particularly drawn to 'Arabe Fantasia' and found the movement and subject matter exhilarating. I decided to incorporate the three arabs in the foreground into this painting to generate a sense of transcendence and freedom. They seem to be flying as opposed to the Urraca perched motionless to the left. The waterfalls and Urraca were based on photographs from a trip to Iguazu with my Mother in 2016.
