My interdisciplinary practice investigates the social and linguistic constructs that shape identity, history, and collective memory in the United States.
MessageThis sculpture echoes Simone de Beauvoir’s claim that femininity is marked, while masculinity stands as unmarked universality. A standing figure, breaking from binary norms of gender, carries a female form slung over their shoulder, suggesting the inherited weight of patriarchal constructs. Steel, a material coded with masculine power, merges with domestic references—wood, hardware, decorative elements—revealing the entanglement of identity, labor, and imposed social roles. The piece challenges heteronormative hierarchies, exposing how gendered subjecthood is scripted, burdened, and resisted.
