My interdisciplinary practice investigates the social and linguistic constructs that shape identity, history, and collective memory in the United States.
MessageThis triptych of framed cement boards recalls the 1940 Detroit “racial wall,” built so a white developer could secure FHA-backed loans after being denied for proximity to a Black neighborhood. The stark, blank slabs reference the physical and bureaucratic barriers erected to enforce segregation. Stripped of ornament, the work confronts viewers with the quiet violence of policy-made walls, exposing how federal housing practices cemented racial boundaries in the North American landscape.
