Named after it this close contains the Cross Keys Inn the remains of which still stand on the right hand side of this close. The opening date of the Inn is not known but it was in operation by the early 1700’s.
The Inn, which closed in 1904, was used as a location in the play “The Flouer’s o’ Edinburgh” by the Scottish author Robert McLellan who was born at Linnmill, Kirkfieldbank. This close joins with Duncan’s Close to the east and then leads through to the North Vennel.
