This was the first piece where I incorporated the black lines into my pointillism. It was a funny moment of seeing two paintings side by side, New Mexico Retreat and an older pointillism piece, and the notion of "I wonder if...?" that brought this painting into being. I had always been frustrated by the softness of pointillism images and saw this as a possible way to add a bold element. The glazing in this piece was a precursor to the glazing used in Friendship. As you can guess from the title of this flagship piece, I was very happy with the results.
