Originally conceived, but never fully realized, the “Sioux Warrior” was designed by John David Brcin, in the late 1920’s, for the entrance to Joslyn Art Museum. In 2009, the museum commissioned Matthew to complete Brcin’s vision for the 15-foot-tall bronze sculpture, which became the signature work of art in its sculpture garden. The sculpture was moved to its current location in North Downtown in 2023 and is on loan from Joslyn Art Museum.
