This artwork is an homage to Jessica Haynes, a 1985 graduate of Omaha Central High School. As a two-time all-state and three-time All-Metro basketball player, Haynes helped Central to back-to-back basketball state championships in 1983 and 1984. Haynes also ran track, where she ran on three gold-medal relays helping Central to Class A titles in 1983 and 1984. Haynes attended San Diego State University where she was a three-year starter and a two-time All-Big West Conference selection.
This artwork is one of a series of utility box wrap murals commissioned by Omaha by Design's Art+Infrastructure public art initiative, with the goal of beautifying Omaha’s “in-between spaces” to help neighborhoods to become more connected, residents to feel safer, and visitors to experience moments of joy. The wraps were completed in partnership with Metro to complement the new ORBT rapid bus transit lines by adding original art to stations along the East/West Dodge Street line.
