The design team of Mary McCawley, Brad Swerczek, Dipti Trivendi, Brad Young, and Dan Rhodes relied on three principles for their design: That it reflect the design principles of Landscape Architecture; that it have a back comfortable for all age groups; and that it be long lasting.
The inspiration for this three seated bench is the natural succession of plant material from budding to full bloom, much like the growth of the City of Omaha. This progression is depicted in three acrylic panels, each making up one of the three seat backs. The metal framework is a blend of smooth curves and strong geometric lines that reflect the natural curved edges of the water and the geometric grid line of the surrounding City’s built patterns. The hope is that this bench welcomes the user to sit back, enjoy the surroundings of our beautiful City and REFLECT.
"Reflection" was sponsored by HDR Architecture, LOOK Architectural Coatings, Chris Kemp and Great Plains Polymers. It was one of thirteen sculptural benches installed in 2010 along the paths of the Gene Leahy Mall as part of the "Take a Seat" project. The bench was moved from that location when renovations to the mall began in 2019, and placed in its current location along Flanagan Lake Road at Flanagan Lake.
