ARTIST STATEMENT
Shaza Umran is a Syrian-american painter based in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri. The habitual documentation of intimate moments within daily life is the essence of her practice. She draws influence from her memory, the natural world, and personal connections (whether they are her own or observed from afar). Much of Umran's recent work is a byproduct of her dissection of the immigrant experience, where she underscores the promise of freedom and its cost to the individual.
