ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
Moving forward despite constraints and the vulnerability that exists.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a photographer in the Southwest Missouri area. I was born in Springfield and have lived throughout the United States. Photography was a natural progression due to my appreciation for the arts and to the beauty of everyday life. Most of my photographs are shot with a shallow depth of field, creating an effect that draws attention to the movement and details of the image. This creates bold colors, rich textures, and often moody backdrops.
The motivation to capture images stems from appreciation not only for what exists, but also for the cycles of life that each living thing experiences. The dramatic metamorphosis and texture of the details, from the beginning of buds to the grace of decay, is captivating. I am inspired by the way light and water reflect on petals, the way a spider web shows off color and light in a mathematical way, or by simply sitting in the still, watching the sun as it goes down through the lens. Photography has a way of connecting me to what is quietly beautiful.
I live in the Springfield area with my husband Shawn, who is a native of the area, and two cats Ozzie and Harry.
