I painted this painting as a compositional experiment. I painted a similar piece entitled "Only Takes a Spark" and showed it to my painting buddies. Some of them thought it would be a stronger composition without the girl on the right. I was convinced enough to paint the entire painting over again with just one figure. This is the result. Does it work?
Reference photo taken at Kamp Kenwood, Chippewa Falls, WI. The water in the background is the Yellow River. It dumps into Lake Wissota half a mile to the right. I grew up on the other side of Lake Wissota.
