From the biblical story of Judas betrayal and the soldier's ear being cut off and healed (Matthew 26:51; Mark 14:47; Luke 22:51; and John 18:10–11).
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
The bible gives the artist many images through the
words for the paintings. In this work I borrowed from another artist ,Giotto, for his image of the kiss but the healing of the ear was important to me too in that Jesus at this most unimaginable time was thinking of the man who lost his ear and rebuking his own disciples. Putting the two images together with a huge tree encircling the scene was an interesting thought to me.
