ARTIST'S NOTES:
This was the most heart-rending piece of Miriam's Stations of the Cross series: the actual piercing of the nails. The pain is accentuated in the pastel by the clashing colors on green grass and Golgatha looming in the bottom right of the painting. The scene is set on Birmingham, Alabama's Cliff Road as the background for the work. This is one of 14 Stations of the Cross that took Miriam over a decade to complete.
