Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Top border of eyes painted in green, with blue eyebrows. Pink, zig-zag, swirly lines painted on the forehead, chin, and cheeks. Small, triangular-shaped line at the center of the forehead. Purple and green zig-zag lines on the sides of the face. Blue dot on the chin. Outer border of teeth painted in pink, inner border painted in yellow.
