Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Top border of eyes painted in orange. Purple eyebrows and nose tip. Blue swirly lines on the forehead ,cheeks, and chin with the inner swirl painted yellow. Orange geometric line on the forehead. Orange zig-zag, swirly line on each side of the chin. Outer border of teeth outline in pink, inner border outlined in dark red. Blue gem on the chin, red gem on the forehead, purple gem in between the eyebrows., and one gem on each cheek.
