Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Red and light blue color scheme, with small purple and pink details. Top border of eyes painted in red with swirly lines extending to the forehead. Red zig-zag, swirly lines painted on the cheeks and on the chin. Light blue, swirly lines painted on the sides of the forehead and on the side of the mouth. One blue dot on the center of the forehead and the chin. Outer border of teeth painted in pink, inner border painted in purple. Nose tip painted purple. Small, light blue strokes above and below the mouth.
