Ricky #25. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Part of the Sun Serpent Series.
Full face male figure handheld mask. Face has slightly sad expression with eyebrows curved down on the sides, slightly covering the eyes. Eyebrows, mustache and full beard raised sculpted with carved hairlines are all painted a dark brown with red highlights. Eyes have light brown iris, black outlines, and white on either side. Slightly sculpted bags under the eyes, and deep wrinkle crease in either side of nostrils, painted brown to add depth. Nose is large and rounded on the end, tinted red. Mouth is parted open with bottom lip painted red.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011.
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
