Wood and acrylic paint
Circle mandala. Center of mandala defined by a yellow cross shape connecting to circular border. Orange triangles in between the empty space of yellow. Outer border of mandala unpainted, preceded by a thin blue border. Yellow triangles and orange half circles surrounding the border before the blue outline. Pink tribal shapes surrounding the center mandala design.
The Recycling the Sacred collection is composed of mandalas whose materials were primarily sourced from second hand stores. The artist began collecting variations of wood from second hand stores to later repurpose and give them "a new dignity and life." Many of the patterns used are inspired by ancient native cultures, particularly the basket and pottery designs of the Huhugam. Most of the mandalas take a circle shape, celebrating the Sacred Circle symbol and our place in it.
