Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Light blue, orange, and purple color scheme, with small pink brush strokes near the eyes. Border of eyes painted in triangular shape, orange at the top and light blue at the bottom. Forehead, chin, and cheeks painted with southwest-like, light blue lines. Orange swirly lines on each side of the mouth. Border of teeth outlined in purple. Purple nose tip. Small, pink strokes above the teeth.
