I drew on the sculptural masks of the Songye people to create this two-panel, vertical composition that portrays a contemporary healing mask. Layered, ribbed forms flow across the panels like carved wood—warm ochres and browns sit against deep black fields, while bright zigzag accents in green, red and blue punctuate the design. Slit eyes, small perforations, and a star-shaped motif suggest ritual markings; concentric curves and blue circular bands give the piece a rhythmic, resonant quality. The result is an abstracted, patterned portrait that balances organic shapes with bold graphic color. A strong focal work that will bring personality and cultural reference to a living room, office, or entryway.
