Artist Bio
Mark Maxted is a self-taught artist, originally from Cambridge, England, but has lived in Oklahoma for 21 years. He concentrates in pencil, watercolor, and acrylic mediums, and loves bright, colorful subjects. He hopes to inspire people to look closely at his subjects and smile when they can see the essence of an animal or a person in his work. He loves light and often humorous poses for some of his subject pieces. He has completed several commissions, is always up for a large-scale project, and loves murals and oversized cavases.
Piece Description
His inspiration for his AAA piece was the “pop art” genre of the ’80s and ’90s, and the vibrant energy and color of the finished piece matches Kimray’s energy and passion. He loves being a part of this group and always delights in bringing his art and vision to the public in as many ways as possible.
“I really wanted to do something that was light, fun, colorful, and captured the energy that I perceived from Kimray,” Mark says. “I like the pop art view of things. This is my attempt to bring a little joy and brightness.
“I really focus on the feeling that a piece might bring to a person. That’s what I hope to capture. If people like it, then I think they must have had some kind of emotional moment with the piece. If you walk down the hallway and you look at it and smile, that’s a good day.”
Sharp-eyed viewers will see a Kimray part repeated in a pattern in one area of Mark’s interpretation of the AAA.
