Artist Bio
A few years ago, Tim Kenney was exposed to the world of abstract art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Paintings he saw there reminded him of New Mexico and Colorado where he and his family camped and fly fished his whole life. After being exposed to the artwork in Santa Fe, he saw his vision of becoming an artist. Having never painted in his life, he returned to Oklahoma and started working with instructor and accomplished artist Carol Armstrong. He has been painting ever since.
The way Tim sees the world is through the lens of a colorist and abstract impressionist. He jokes that the further you get from the art piece, the more it comes together.
His love for adventure has spurred him to take on a variety of challenges when it comes to his art. In 2014 he went to all 50 states in 50 days and painted 50 paintings in the midst of it. Then, in 2017, he visited all 77 Oklahoma counties in 77 days painting 77 pieces of art in that time.
Piece Description
“I looked at all the other renderings of the valve, and most of them are very realistic, so I wasn’t sure what to do because I’m an impressionist,” Tim says. “I decided that I was just going to freehand the thing. I would get my knife and let it happen like I’ve let my other paintings happen. I didn’t really study complementary colors as everyone else did. It just happens for me. I sort of like that. I don’t need an art school or a 10-year art degree to paint. For me, it’s about the love of art and the adventure that comes along with it.”
