As the sun approaches the summer solstice its rays begin to strike the schefflera that is against the window of my studio in Florida. The color just before sunset is both rare and beautiful, creating reds and purples in the otherwise ho-hum shrub. I positioned the cardinal to express my relationship with nature; he and his wife spend the winter flitting in and out of my studio view, as aware of us as we are of them. This was painted during the isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic; I did several paintings of my studio view.
