The immense volcanic rocks formed the walls that towered over us as we made our way quietly through the canyon. The cracks had formed as the rocks cooled, eons ago, creating geometric patterns, now eroded by time. The raven suddenly appeared in a gap above the boulders, in complete contrast to its silent surroundings: alive, raucous, and free to fly.
The pattern and power of the rock formations provided the inspiration for my series of canyon paintings, created after an immersion experience in the Mojave Desert in Southern California.
