It's obvious I am not a landscape painter but I am attempting to learn. Someday I'll look back at this and say, "God, That background is awful" but at the time I painted this, it was the best I could do. Initially, I had planned to do a simple scene of people camping out, drinking, grilling steaks, etc. But, that's kind of boring. So, I thought "It needs a hook, something interesting, something to add a little drama." So I put some zombies coming in from the right. I kind of experimented with doppled sunlight and bright areas in this. I think it came out nice. I want to title this, "Zombie Campground." That would also make a funny movie title on the marquee of a theater. I wanted to put symbols of death in it. Other than a grim reaper wish would be unrealistic. I didn't know of any other ones. I did put a dead bird on the grill of the camper, then I remembered someone told me one time that in certain native American cultures, the owl is a symbol of death, so I put one above the zombies.. Bottom right: I think the margarita pitcher and glasses came out nice. The man is saying, "Would you go get Daddy another bottle of tequila, sweetie? That's a good girl." I wanted to make his wife Asian mostly because I hardly ever put them in my picture. The baby at the bottom is saying, "Kittttyyy." As stated previously, I would really love to get these printed up into calendars. This would be a good one for September. The trees are mostly green, but a few are just starting to change.
Note: The likeness for the chef grilling steaks is Edgar Oliver. We are both fans of his stories. He wanted someone mildly ominous and we decided on using Edgar's face eerily lit by the flames.
