I had photographed a series of images on this particular winter theme during a walk in my backyard during the shortest day of the year in 2020. The quality of light, contrasting values and colors captured my fancy and after some design choices, this painting was begun. Even though it is a simple subject, it is also somewhat mysterious and holds an abundance of meaning in it about end of life and the promise of renewal.
