I often begin a new piece by creating odd interlocking forms and colors in a jigsaw puzzle mode. I like to apply sharply contrasting colors to adjacent shapes and allow the combinations and interactions to suggest figures, faces, interactions and conflicts. As the assemblage begins to suggest to me a moment in time, a story, an event or a narrative, I further transform the painting into what I hope will become an interesting, intriguing visual and emotional experience for the viewer.
