I think of these paintings as discoveries rather than designs. A loose compositional sketch gets me started, but the final painting only appears through layers of colour, texture and intuition.
Low Tide Orchestra evolved through flowing layers of blue and soft, sweeping marks that hinted at tidal movement and shifting coastlines. The title came later, inspired by the quiet rhythms and patterns that appear as the tide slips away. Rather than depicting a real place, I prefer leaving that open, so the viewer can discover their own sense of place.
