Before every spare minute had to be filled, boredom was just part of being a kid.
'Dog Days' captures one of those slow summer moments - a boy and his dog waiting on the dropped tailgate of an old station wagon, with nothing much happening and nowhere to be. No screen, no schedule, no entertainment. Just heat, time, the family dog and the kind of boredom that was just a part of childhood.
Painted with hand-cut stencils and aerosol, this small work is part of Geoff Cunningham’s Australian nostalgia series, revisiting the ordinary moments that shaped childhood before anyone felt the need to record everything.
