This honeybee mural was painted at the Commerce Public Library. It is designed to enhance the library atrium and bring attention to the learning hive installed on one of the atrium windows. This project was completed using acrylic mural and theme paints. Because the bulk of the design is installed above the height of 10ft, a scissor lift was required to complete the project.
I was approached by the Commerce Library Director to submit a design for this project. Once an initial sketch was prepared, I met with the Commerce Friends of the Library Board and City of Commerce officials for approval. The Commerce City Clerk and City Manager requested changes, which were made before installation of the project.
The atrium measures 20 feet high, by 80 linear feet, split between four walls. The large hive panel is approximately 10 feet tall by 20 feet wide, with additional elements of varying sizes painted throughout the space, both at ground level and at the level of the hive panel.
