Luna Lunaria is an introduction to the symbolism of the luna moth. My primary focus for this painting was to explore a new color palette. I used a gold halo around the moth to draw attention to the silhouette of the moth as much as the inner details. Much like the swallows in previous paintings, the eye is drawn to the primary symbolic element of the painting.
I intend to combine the elements and color palette from this painting with future portrait concepts to further explore the symbolism of the luna moth and expand the narrative of my Wayfinder series.
