Juanita Cole Towery, a Round Rock, Texas-based artist, was formerly published as Juanita Cole Howard when she resided in Houston, Texas. She is a wonderfully diverse artist who uses various mediums to produce vibrant colors on multiple surfaces creating images to capture the imagination of its viewers. Without locking herself into any particular style of painting, Juanita refers to her style of art as "Abstract Nita-ism," where realism and the abstract co-exist in perfect harmony. She also considers herself a 'zone artist' in that she doesn't paint daily.
However, when she's in the 'zone', she produces a whole new body of work, completely different from the last, that may include 10 to 12 pieces. A gallery exhibit of her art makes the viewer feel as if they're looking at the works of multiple artists.
Over the years, Juanita's works have been exhibited in several Houston, Los Angeles and Austin galleries. In 1997, La Mere et L'Enfant Gallery in Houston, Texas commissioned Juanita to paint a commemorative piece based on the autobiography of former United States Surgeon General, Dr. Joycelyn Elders entitled "From Sharecropper's Daughter to Surgeon General." Los Angeles, California art exhibits include the William Grant Still Center, the Lucy Florence Gallery and The Loft at Liz's Gallery, where she was one of 19 international artists featured in the "Erotic...aahh" exhibit. Since her move back to Texas, Juanita has exhibited at AVAA shows, Round Rock Arts Gallery, Link & Pen Gallery and La Pena Gallery. Juanita was the featured artist in a solo exhibit at The Austin Revitalization Authority which ran from January through March, 2018. She was also one of several women artists showcased in the 2018 and 2019 "Inspiring Women" exhibits in celebration of International Women's Day during the month of March and the 2019 "Day of the Dead" exhibits at La Pena Gallery in Austin.
