The coasts of California are filled with coastal gems to paint. This square painting depicts a spot on the coast located in Pigeon Point Light Station State Park, north of Santa Cruz. I was intrigued by the prominent coastal rock exposed by the low tide, and the ocean water as it rushed in amongst the rocks. This was painted in the late afternoon, on location. Plein air painting allows one to fully embrace all the nuances of color and value within a scene, but one also to contend with the ever-changing light as the sun moves across the sky.
This painting was created on a premium gesso panel made by Jack Richeson & Co. and painted with professional oil paints. It has also been sealed with a layer of Gamsol varnish to protect and enhance the oil paint. This artwork is shipped unframed. Please send me a message to inquire about the price with frame.
