Essence is the most significant aspect of a thing or person. In "Cobalt Essence" the most significant aspect of the painting is the cobalt blue color. The essence of cobalt blue is what taps into my feelings and inspires me to put it on the canvas. This painting is partially painted with a flexible wedge that allows me to flow paint like applying plaster to a wall. It is a sense of being deliberate in the strokes to allow inspiration to flow on to the canvas.
