Rocky Situations

I love rocks and I am inspired by rocks. I also love to paint outside the box - in more ways than one! The paintings in "Rocky Situations" are a form of collage, except the collage items are three dimensional. Most of the rocks I use are gathered from the yards and fields of friends and family here in Texas.   Most of my river rock, gemstones, and some others are purchased. But my collection of rocks is ever expanding when I get the chance to add to it.
Besides rocks I also use Texas wood in these paintings.  I grew up in West Texas which is miles and miles of farmland on seemingly unending plains. Mountains and forests were the places of dreams. The scrub mesquite and and abundant cactus of the plains have long ago been removed to make way for the big equipment of the cotton farmers.  Rivers, trees, mountains or rolling hills and rocks all detract from the viability of farm land. I guess that is why I love rocks and trees and why they give me inpiration.

Just A Little Red

Red speaks with a strong confident voice out of both sides of its mouth. It may denote love, passion, power or it may show a fit of rage or present dominance. You might be a red kind of person? If so you could be an extrovert, outgoing, and enjoy living life to the max. Or people may see you as competitive and unapologetic for who you are. You see, in an abstract society there is always the invisible working around you and through you!

A Bit of Whimsy

Whimsy is an unusual, maybe unexpected thing. It might be considered fanciful or strike you as humorous. There are many such things in the abstract world. If we open our minds to think about the invisible and unknown we could find a lot of unexpected things that we consider highly unusual and that could make us laugh, maybe at ourselves.

Smaller Works

This collection is sized at 12" x 12". These are pure abstraction, totally free of restraint. They are painted from intuition only - no source other than the mind and spirit. Be free to explore the unknown universe.

Geometrics

The abstract world has structure just as the physical world, we just do not know what it looks like. The pieces in this collection are just the expression of my internal play with geometrics. |  Edit

Horizons

It kind of looks like a landscape? Of course we live in landscapes so it is natural for us to see the horizon. It grounds us and helps us orient ourselves within our physical world.  It also creates a starting point for depicting the our physical world in the abstract. We see a horizon because we cannot see around a ball which happens to be floating in infinite space. Think about that a minute. If there were an end to the space in which our universe exists, what would be on the other side? No end, just more horizons. Can our life be the same way? I think so!
