"LITHIC OCEAN 1" is a abstract translation of a 3-day hiking trip of the "Steinernes Meer" (Lithic Ocean) in the Bavarian Alps near Berchtesgaden. A landscape that is, as the name suggests, an endless ocean of rock, it felt a bit like walking on the moon. This work captures the sheer monumentality of the stone mass while honoring the profound fragility of life that persists there. The sudden presence of feathery alpine flowers, the rare green spot of life that has found its foothold in the seemingly barren scree.
This piece is a dialogue between stillness and action, between the eternal, static nature of stone and the fleeting, vibrant necessity of survival.
The sides are painted black.
