The "Nocturnal Flowers" series is about luminosity emerging from depth and is a minimalistic and direct translation of that idea. The process began simply with the deliberate choice of a deep, dramatic black background. This choice acts not as an absence, but as a dense, receptive field that was meant to electrically charge any colour placed upon it.
As I worked, the central abstract floral forms naturally emerged. It wasn't planned, but felt necessary to balance the weight of the shadow. The brilliant orange and pink lines, applied with a strong gestural energy, then began to pulse and glow as if catching an invisible light source - the essence of a midnight bloom. It captures the fragile beauty of a moment that only exists when the rest of the world is quiet; unexpected, vivid colours emerging from the shadow.
