The "LOST PLACES" series is about the poetry of decay. The work condenses the complex, melancholic beauty radiated in abandoned places, the ambiguity that defines these sites: they are abandoned and neglected, bearing the marks of civilization, yet they simultaneously exert a mysterious, hidden allure on us. All works of the series, have a heavy, tactile mixed-media technique (collage with ash); the layering and excavating mirrors the different levels of history and decay found in these forgotten structures.
The somber, nuanced palette - deep grays, charcoal, and muted, earthy tones - is typical of the series and speaks of transience and neglect. I deliberately contrast the visible decay with patches of color accents, which can be interpreted as lingering signs of life or warning marks within the abandonment. Or as details that round up the composition.
The finished work captures the stillness and beauty within the decay and how places, left to the elements, transform into entirely new, mysterious landscapes.
